Description: Established in 1995 Rogue is a not-for-profit, co-operative that supports visual arts practice by providing artists with accessible and affordable studios in Manchester city centre. Rogue now houses sixty artists over two floors of studios and includes Rogue Project Space, used primarily for residency and exchange projects. One of the largest independent artists’ studio groups operating in the North West, artist members range from recent graduates to established practitioners and work in a wide range of disciplines and media; including drawing, film and video, illustration, installation, interactive art, painting, performance, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles.
Rogue artists exhibit widely throughout the UK, and internationally, and individual artists from the studios are often featured in the programmes of many of the region's most highly acclaimed galleries and museums.
In 2008 Rogue launched a new floor of studios and a Project Space, making it one of the largest independent artists’ studio groups operating in the North West. This exciting expansion was made possible through support from Arts Council England; in 2007 they awarded Rogue £36,000 from their Grants for the Arts Capital (GfAC) fund to invest in the studio development.
Rogue Project Space programme incorporates a series of residencies and curatorial exchange projects, alongside temporary exhibitions and events. The Project Space provides a platform for discussion and critical debate and act as a meeting place or hub for recent graduates and young artists and curators both living in, and visiting Manchester. Through the Project Space programme Rogue hopes to establish a vibrant environment for creative practice and dialogue.
Rogue Project Space is supported by Arts Council England and Rogue Artists' Studios. For further information or enquiries about Rogue Project Space please email Sophia Crilly, the Curator/Manager at: projects@rogueartistsstudios.co.uk
